Tips for Taking Care of Your Bonsai Tree

Tips for Taking Care of Your Bonsai Tree

Be sure you give your bonsai tree enough water!

Do your neighbors care for bonsai trees? Are there times you find yourself wishing you could learn the delicate art of caring for these elegant trees? Perhaps you’re just too worried your mischievous house cat will find a way to eat it.  In any case, we’ve assembled this list of tips for taking care of a bonsai tree.

Keep It Watered

First things first, you’ll want to be sure you give your bonsai tree enough water. Although you might think this is stating the obvious, bonsai trees aren’t like other plants. They’re quite picky about the amount of water that they need. Take a bucket or tub of water and pour it over the bonsai tree once a week. You’ll know the tree has received enough water when you see air bubbles come up to the surface.  Humidity is another important factor to consider when it comes to the health of your bonsai tree. A humidity tray should help you keep the plant humid enough for its liking.

Putting It in the Right Place

Next, you should figure out where your new bonsai tree will live. Hopefully, it’s somewhere out of reach for your curious pets or children. It can live anywhere inside your home or outside, too. Wherever you put it, make sure it ‘ll get an adequate amount of sunlight.

How to Prune a Bonsai Tree

When you prune a bonsai tree, don’t forget to breathe. The simple act of trimming leaves from a bonsai tree can be as relaxing as meditation and mindfulness. Help shape the growing tree, and direct its top growth to other spots you think are a bit bare. If you see any dead branches, cut them with off with bonsai clippers – this is vitally important! Don’t assume you can use regular scissors for this task.
